Biblical Women. Equity?
Art Exhibition
The Tour Dates
‘Biblical Women. Equity?’ is originally an open call art exhibition in celebration of International Women’s Day 2023 #EmbraceEquity. All the artworks are inspired or based upon female characters in the Christian Bible. The artists are all women or girls but not necessarily from the Christian faith.
The idea originated with ‘The Art Fringe Club’ at Monmouth Baptist Church. To know more visit their website. In short, they invited female artists to respond through the medium of art to the written accounts of women and girls in the Bible. In the history of art the majority of artwork focusing on these Biblical women was produced by men. It is entirely appropriate for women to take a fresh look and provide their own interpretation of the events recorded.
We are taking a short adaptation of the exhibition on tour. It’s a very inclusive exhibition bringing together professional artists to hobbyists, from 12 to 70 years old! It’s a mixed medium exhibition displaying painting, felting, sculpture, dance and song. Everything will be bilingual. The initiative driving the exhibition seeks to provide an equitable representation of women in the Bible and to redress the balance of perspective. We seek to promote female artists and put a focus on our chosen charity ‘Meninadança’.
Get involved! We would love to bring the exhibition to you and your local area, and engage together with the community. Or if you are a creative woman or girl, you can still submit artwork, inspired by a Biblical female, towards the touring exhibition.

Open call for ALL female Artists!
We invite you to submit work in any medium (painting, photography, printmaking, video art, sculpting, mixed media, illustration etc.) for our compelling, touring exhibition celebrating International Women’s Day 2023: Biblical Women. Equity? #EmbraceEquity.
We invite female artists to respond through the medium of art to the written accounts of women and girls in the Bible. In the history of art the majority of artwork focusing on these Biblical women was produced by men. It is entirely appropriate for women to take a fresh look and provide their own interpretation of the events recorded.
The stories of these women are as gripping and relevant today as they were in the past. The struggles and challenges they encountered hold contemporary parallels for the situations and experiences we face today - love and betrayal; adventure and intrigue; domestic heaven or hell, persecution and prejudice.
Sometimes overlooked, betrayed, underestimated and yet by equal measure loved, honoured, and powerful. Whether riding into battle, risking their lives to avert genocides, defying or murdering their evil sovereigns, surviving abuse, infidelity, infertility, enduring single parenthood or striving for social justice these women and girls demand contemporary exploration and a voice.
We are creating an exhibition which looks at the International Women’s Day 2023 theme of #EmbraceEquity through the lens of Biblical women and ‘equity’. We are responding to the IWD call to action of ‘…philanthropy, collaboration and uplifting women’! The initiative driving the exhibition seeks to provide an equitable representation of women in the Bible and to redress the balance of perspective.
We seek to promote female artists and put a focus on our chosen charity ‘Meninadança’.

The stories of the women in the Bible have been a source of inspiration for artists throughout history. Their struggles and triumphs resonate with us even today, regardless of our backgrounds or beliefs. Through love and betrayal, adventure and intrigue, persecution, and prejudice, these women fought for their rights and challenged the status quo. Their resilience and strength have inspired generations, and this exhibition aims to bring their stories to life and give these women the voice they deserve.
Through the eyes of contemporary art, we get to experience the personalities and lives of the women of the Bible like never before. The artists featured in this exhibition have taken inspiration from these women’s stories and created unique and thought-provoking works of art, including paintings, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. Each piece is a testament to the artist’s interpretation of these women’s experiences, offering a fresh perspective that challenges our thinking. We believe that art has the power to transform, inspire, and unite us. This exhibition is an invitation to celebrate the contributions of women to our society and to reflect on their role in shaping our world. It is a call to #EmbraceEquity and to stand in solidarity with the women who have fought for their faith, equity and justice. The exhibition is open to the public, and admission is free.
